Sharing My Obsession - My Disney Bookshelf

Posted by Valerie Tyler on

**This post contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking through my links. I am not in any way affiliated with the Walt Disney Company and all viewpoints are my own opinions.

A little behind the scenes fact, though I regularly post style and fashion features...I am a HUGE Disney fan.  So much so, that I'll read, watch and pretty much eat up anything related to the mouse that I can get my hands on. I wanted to share a few items from my bookshelf

I do admit that since I've been a kid, I've probably bought Birnbaum's guide almost every other year. Granted, I know almost everything in the book cover to cover, but there is something gratifying about the tradition.

More recently I discovered this series by Mike and Julie Neal.  I was really impressed with how jam-packed with information and photos the books were.  My only complaint was that the cover and pages could curl up a bit (most likely due to the amount of thumbing through it I did) I'd say this guide is probably the most comprehensive and well worth it when it comes to photos.  There are hundreds!
Now if you're really a fanatic, guide books alone are never enough.  If you're like me you want the little details and behind the scenes information. Robert Niles has probably one of my favorite books written by a former employee.  Though a little on the short side, the stories are funny, candid, sweet and simple. It offers insight into some of the many funny things that can happen when you work daily with the general public at a place as popular as Walt Disney World.
Now, my all time favorite books were the series of Imagineering Field guides that explore all the technology, artistry and planning that went into the various parks.  These are excellent books for people who are detail oriented and will show you the parks in an entirely new light.

Finally, my last book on the must read list is from a Legend and a huge influence on the parks as we know them today.Marty Sklar was involved with the Walt Disney Company since 1955 and as such has a wealth of experience and insight.
