A Breath of Fresh Air Spring Home Tour

A Breath of Fresh Air Spring Home Tour

I'm participating in the the "A Breath of Fresh Air" Spring Home Tour right now.  If you are stopping by from T. Moore home, hello! Teri is a most impressive DIYer and designer and I know she had amazing inspiration to share.

A little background for those of you who are new around here.  I'm the vintage curator behind the Valerie Tyler Collection.  You can find anything from nature inspired decor, to global styled goods and even a touch of vintage glam in the collection.  The focus is on high quality objects and art that stand the test of time. I also share ways to incorporate vintage into your home decor, as well as lots of earth inspired home decorating inspiration here on this blog and on Instagram.

So welcome to my nature focused home that is the styling spring board for a lot of the vintage you will also find in the shop.  Take a peek at how the house is transitioning for warmer and cheery Spring weather. I was in the mood to usher out the darker days of Winter by bringing in a super subtle, blush pink this year.  The large pillows coordinate perfectly with the blush pink planter on our coffee table.  A small wood bunny also complements the planter with it's beige tones and the wood candles to add another touch of Spring.

I moved my succulents on pink print here to add another touch of subtle pink and green to the room.

I like to keep my Easter decorations subtle so simple things like animal sculptures such as this white porcelain rabbit fit in the theme of our natural style decor. Of course, I always include plenty of vintage brass on the shelves for a pop of glam.

In spring for me, it's really all about the greenery! I take stock of what has survived the Winter and start to pick up some plants to fill the home until they overflow to the outdoors when the weather gets nicer.

My favorite plant in Spring is usually any type of fern.  They are usually non-toxic  for our cats too so I can put them out pretty much anywhere.

A little fern care tip:  They love to be misted!  Spray them often with a fine water mist to keep them happy. I found two faux wood planters (seen below) to put a few in for a very organic look.

Unfortunately when it comes to succulents, I've tried my hand at tending them multiple times and with the constant varying temperatures of our home and the drafts they just don't survive.  So, I like to tuck faux succulents in corners of the house. This is a collection of my own hand painted faux succulents from the Valerie Tyler Collection.

Mini Succulents available in the shop

Currently the plants are mostly housed in our office, which is off limits to our cats. That way they can't nibble the more toxic ones.  These will be mostly heading out to the back patio once Summer arrives. Indoor plant lighting was used to help them survive the Winter. It's not ideal since it's a little draft up here but this area does get a good amount of sun as you can see from the windows behind.  It definitely makes for a more relaxing workspace.

Finally, one last look at my daughter's room before it gets switched up.  This girl is long overdue for a big girl bed! We are going to be going with a new gold, black and white Minnie Mouse theme.  We will definitely need to find a place for this art though since I still love it! Much like the rest of the house, nature was the driving theme. The walls were specifically painted to mimic the sky and we even have white cloud shelving.  I added just a bit more color in the bedding and the rug.

Something about Spring always gets me in a nautical mood too.  Though we live near woodlands, our former years of living near the shores of Lake Erie are still fresh in my memory so I still like to dress up the Master bedroom with our nautical treasures and art.
