Condition notes: This book contains some owner notations from various decades. The front end papers of the book have notations dated 1945, 1960, and 1967 (also written upside down). A previous owners name is also written on the half title page. A stamped date of Jan 13 1945 is on the first text page with a notation "at 19 years" This has the appearance of a book someone loved throughout their years. Some underlining on a few pages (not excessive) Cover shows wear, corners bumped, some fading to silver gilt details, fabric cover torn along back top of spine plus a little loose on boards and other wear. Foxing to endpapers. Spine cracked inside. A bit of silver remains along the top edge of the pages. Overall good condition however for it's scarcity and a book of this age with the exception of the writing which adds a unique character and history.

Author history:
Ian Holbourn (1872-1935) was born John Bernard Stoughton Holbourn,
He was a Scottish Laird as well as a professor and lecturer for the University of Oxford in addition to being a writer.
Interestingly he was a survivor of the sinking of the Lusitania shortly after this book was published. (He also heroically saved a child from drowning during the tragedy)
